TOYANOGATA PICKNIC Event Information
TOYANOGATA PICKNIC（ﾋﾟｯｸﾆｯｸ）とは、新潟市の中心にある大きな湖沼「鳥屋野潟」で舟に乗って自然や風景を楽しみながら、同時に鳥屋野潟に流れつくゴミを拾うアクティビティです。
鳥屋野潟は都市と自然と人が共生している湖沼。
新潟市の街中に広がる約158haもの潟には、野鳥や多様な動植物が生息し、潟のめぐみを享受しながら人々は暮らしを営み、豊かな自然環境と人が共生しています。
水面に舟で漕ぎ出してみると、陸からみる鳥屋野潟とはまるで別世界が広がっています。
水面と同じ高さで魚が跳ねたり野鳥が飛び交うダイナミックな光景を間近でみれらたり、周囲の木々や潟を吹き抜ける風を肌で感じられたり。新潟に住み慣れた人にとっても、水上から見る新潟の街も新鮮な風景に感じられるでしょう。
一方、新潟の中でも海抜の低い土地にある鳥屋野潟には、繋がっている水路などに落ちたゴミが流れつきます。その多くがペットボトル、空き瓶、空き缶、発泡スチロールなど、人々の生活によって生み出されたゴミたちです。
鳥屋野潟の環境は、人々の生活と、良くも悪くも密接に関わりあっています。
TOYANOGATA PICKNICは、鳥屋野潟の自然を楽しみながら、潟の環境や人々の生活にも目を向け、楽しみながらアクションしようという取り組みです。
鳥屋野潟の漁師さんが漕ぐ「板合わせ舟（木舟）」で潟に漕ぎ出して自然や風景を楽しみながら、潟に流れ着いたゴミを“PICK”してみませんか？

Toyanogata “Picknic” is a boating activity where people can enjoy nature while picking up trash floating in the waters of Toyanogata, a large wetland lake in the heart of Niigata city.
The 158-hectare Toyanogata wetland is home to a diverse range of birds, plants, and other wildlife. The residents of Niigata enjoy the bounty of the wetland while living in harmony with the rich natural habitat.
Out on the water, Toyanogata shows a different side than when viewed from the land. Fish jump and swim along the surface of the water, and birds fly dynamically overhead. The wind comes blowing through the trees along the bank to brush against your skin. Even for local Niigatians, viewing the city from the water is a fresh experience.
However, because of Toyonogata’s low altitude, the lake is also a gathering place for the litter that flows down from surrounding waterways. Most of the litter is made up of everyday waste products—plastic bottles, glass bottles, metal cans, and polystyrene. For better or for worse, the wetland environment is intimately tied to the life of the city.
Toyanogata Picknic was created as a fun way to raise awareness about the wetlands and our lifestyles while making a positive impact on the environment. Join us in a traditional wooden ita awase boat guided by Toyanogata’s fishermen and help us protect the wetlands. Grab your net, a bag, and a pair of tongs. The wetlands are waiting!
